History is a dynamic, exciting and contemporary subject, which covers the social, economic and political heritage of many cultures and societies.
Year 7 and 8 students learn about the ancient world’s societies, such as Egypt, China, Greece and Rome. Additionally, classes study Vikings, the Middle Ages, Medieval Japan and the Conquest of the Americas.
Years 9 and 10 focus on 19th and 20th Century Australian history, with topics including the World Wars and the Great Depression. Aboriginal history and perspectives of migrants also allow students to develop cross-cultural understanding.
Year 11 and 12 students can choose to study both Modern and Ancient History. Modern History focuses on American and Japanese history, with a detailed study of the War in the Pacific, as well as the rise of Fascism. Ancient History students explore Greek, Roman and Persian cultures. Modern archaeological techniques are taught, along with myths and legends, and battle tactics.
Extension History, which focuses on the philosophy of history, allows further intellectual depth for keen historians.
